Uploading & organizing documents

Every file you upload gets automatically indexed so you can ask questions about it straight away — no manual tagging or setup required.

1

Drag files straight into the chat

The fastest way in — drop one or more files anywhere in Matter Chat. Each one lands with a checkmark as it's indexed, usually within seconds.

2

Or use the Documents tab for more control

Open the Documents tab in the matter workspace to upload, create folders, and organize files into a proper structure — useful once a matter has more than a handful of files.

3

Create folders to keep things tidy

Group related documents — e.g. "Correspondence," "Plans," "Reports" — so you can scope a chat question to just one folder later if needed.

4

Let indexing finish before asking detailed questions

Indexing is usually near-instant, but for large multi-page reports it can take a little longer — the checkmark confirms a file is ready to be queried.

Tip: if you upload a file with the same name as one already in the matter, topicAI will ask if you want to overwrite it — handy for replacing an outdated draft without creating a duplicate.
